A blue eyed boy, six to eight weeks old, was abandoned outside St. Vincent Hospital last night about 10 o’clock. The child was taken into the hospital, where it is being cared for while police search for the parents.

The infant was healthy, normal and, alternately, hungry and sleepy.  It had excellent care. It was wrapped in pink blankets.  In the blanket was a four-ounce bottle of milk formula, empty.

There was no note and no immediate means of identification.  The hospital nurses named the foundling “Mike.”

It was found in the front seat of a car at the side entrance of the hospital.  The car was driven by Michael Shea of 3 Montague street who had driven a friend, Thomas McGrath of 18 Strathmore road to the hospital to visit a sick brother,  John J. McGrath, of 78 West street.

The two men told police they were in the hospital about 15 minutes visiting the patient and when they came out they found the infant on the front seat of the car.

Hospital attendants later said they had noticed an automobile driving around the hospital driveway a few times.  It entered the grounds from the Winthrop street side and was driven around, hesitatingly.  The car was a canvas top convertible coupe, a small one.  Police connected the car with the abandonment.  No one could see its occupants.

At the time visiting hours had ended and the driveway was almost deserted.   Parts of the driveway are dark, particularly the section where the child was abandoned.

Doctors John P. Curry and Eugene J. McDonald, house physicians, examined the infant and found its health excellent.

Police theorized that the infant was driven from out of town, possibly by someone who mistook the hospital for St. Anne’s orphanage on Granite street, in the approximate section.

This is what the infant has when it was abandoned and it was in these tiny possessions police sought a clue to “Mike’s” parents.  Two pink blankets, unlabeled, Blue knitted bonnet (unlabeled), white sweater, unlabeled, undershirt (Vanta), White sox, blue dress (unlabeled), Blue coat (Esmond Blanket) Diaper, white slip.
